Skype-ington

Hi all,

I am very fond of the Skype-ington and use it very often to let my kids talk to their cousins in NSW.

Also, it is sometimes useful to chat to my sister. But mostly I dont want to be reminded of how beautiful and young she looks, especially when I can see my own face in the little square in the corner. I have managed to stop it showing me my own tired face, so I really should get back on and chat to my sister...

Must dash.

Del.icio.us

Mmmmm, I found a neat cupcake recipe on Bakeralla….

The problem is I can already do everything I want with the latest version of Mozilla Firefox.

If I want to view a page that I haven’t bookmarked, it is quicker to Google it than sign in to del.icio.us on every computer I use. Besides, nobody I know uses del.icio.us, so I am not able to do a heap of “social” tagging anyway.

I can use twitter to find out about new blog posts by my fave writers.

I mean, fair enough if I lived online and had a computer with me where ever I went… but I don’t need to access a bunch of web pages to cook pasta or use the toilet, so it is just not worthwhile.

My most commonly used pages are all on my taskbar at home, what else do I need, really?

Somebody else might need this sort of thing, or maybe I will at some point, but right now I can access what I am looking for or need to find without this tool.

Library Things

My LibraryThing library.

http://www.librarything.com/profile/Teghan_Alexis

I forgot my password so I cant get into it! Now I have two.

Whiz, Bang, Bing!

Am I relying on technology to fulfil my psychological need for social interaction?

The simple answer is: “yes”.

I have become somewhat of a hermit. I rarely go out, visit friends, or involve myself in group activities.

Most of my time is spent caring for children, working, or sleeping. The time I get to myself I want to completely disengage with the world. I want to escape from my responsibilities. I want to… fight dragons.

Currently, I think I spend 12-15 hours a week playing an RPG game called Dragon Age. Before Dragon Age I was reading Dostoevsky. I am still reading Dostoevsky...

I also use social networking sites to replace my almost non-existent social life. Facebook is my preferred social networking platform. Sadly enough, I have even used Facebook to communicate with my partner in another room of the same house. What has become of me?!

It is an addiction, I fear. And this blog is an intervention...

Thing 1 and Thing 2

So, I’m a Librarian, investigating Web 2.0 Things. 23 of them, in fact…

As part of the course, I have to start a blog, posting my reflections on each of these Things.

First, I discovered I already have a blog.

Yes, really!

I didn’t even remember that it existed, but when I looked at the creation date I realised it was created while heavily pregnant with my youngest child, so it suddenly makes sense that I have no memory of this mysterious blog.

It must have been a relatively straightforward process, or I would have been completely incapable of its creation at the time. All that was actually possible at this time was sleeping, and eating ice and Doritos. If creating this blog was complicated, I would have fallen asleep on my keyboard, in a mushy puddle of water and cheese powder, half way through the process.

Much love,

Teg.
